About the Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will support managing, maintaining and supporting our internal computing infrastructure including secure environments and cloud-based services. Assisting with testing and assessing technologies to enhance the security or capabilities of environments completing technical work packages for internal and external infrastructure projects.
Typical activities include:
- Collaborate with Project Delivery, Engineering, and Managed Services teams to support stakeholder and customer outcomes.
- Develop and improve infrastructure policies, procedures, and controls to strengthen Information Security.
- Maintain the ISMS and support ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus audits.
- Identify IT needs and risks, propose solutions, and implement improvements.
- Define and manage risk-based policies, procedures, and system enhancements.
- Support internal IT infrastructure, including devices, networks, monitoring, and security patching.
- Provide technical support, enhance documentation, and help build an ITIL-driven service culture.
Skills and Experience
- Broad hands-on experience designing, configuring, and supporting enterprise IT infrastructure across diverse platforms and technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure components including networking, storage (SAN/iSCSI), Windows/Linux systems, and virtualisation platforms (Hyper-V, Proxmox, VMware).
- Proven experience working within security frameworks such as ISO27001, CIS, NCSC, and Cyber Essentials Plus.
- Skilled in managing infrastructure tools like Active Directory, Azure, Intune, Autopilot, EntraID, and scripting in PowerShell/Bash.
- Strong knowledge of networking concepts including firewalls, load balancing, VPNs, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise Wi-Fi.
- Experienced with containerisation (LXC, Docker), Linux tools (Nginx, OpenSSL, FreeIPA), and monitoring platforms like the ELK Stack.
- Excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, and team collaboration skills with a proactive and flexible approach.
Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this position you must:
- A minimum 3 years’ experience as an Infrastructure or Systems Engineer across multi-vendor enterprise IT environments.
- Be a British Citizen; and
- Hold or be eligible for NSV – DV (please see the gov.uk for guidance)
