In Conversation with Alice Price, PentenAmio’s Women in Defence UK 2025 finalist

Being nominated by her peers and shortlisted by the judges in the Champion for Maximising Talent category at this year’s Women in Defence UK Awards, we sat down with Alice to learn about her career journey to date and what’s led to this fantastic achievement.

Celebrating the Achievements of our Outstanding Women

Alice, PentenAmio’s Head of Early Careers, has always been drawn to technology and enjoys logical problem-solving. Studying Physics with Astronomy at the University of Leicester before starting her career on a graduate scheme within the defence sector, her professional journey has since taken her on an exciting path.

Since joining PentenAmio in 2022, Alice has led and evolved our UK Early Careers schemes which are now an integral part of the business and help us to recruit bright, young talent every year. A huge part of these schemes relies on collaboration between colleagues and business functions, encouraging our new recruits to explore their passions, learn from others, and build meaningful connections with peers and leaders.

“Mentoring is a fantastic way to share experiences and have an ally, especially when you step into male dominated sectors such as defence and cyber – and particularly when you find yourself in engineering teams where women are a minority,” says Alice. “Mentorship has been of huge benefit in building my skills and confidence in my abilities, giving me a wealth of shared experiences and wider business context to draw upon. I try to bring these learnings into my current roles.”

As well as heading up our Eary Careers team, Alice also takes on Systems Engineering for projects at PentenAmio.

“It’s a challenging, but fun split between the roles,” explains Alice. “I was drawn to Systems Engineering because I find it interesting seeing the intricate ways in which each element of engineering fits into a product/project. I find it such a shame that women are still underrepresented within defence, as teams made up of diverse people and perspectives really do bring great ideas and solutions.”

An advocate for Women in Defence, Alice has spearheaded multiple events to encourage young women into STEM subjects, from talks at local colleges to driving graduate recruitment at university careers fairs.

“I think the key for any young person is to find what you are passionate about and good at,” explains Alice. “Explore everything, and don’t feel like you need to specialise too early – a knowledge area or skill that you have not tried might surprise you and take you down an entirely different path than the one you imagined. Also, advocate for yourself, ask questions, explore opportunities, and don’t be disheartened by other people’s opinions.”

Alice understands that a company’s culture plays a huge part in enabling women to excel in their careers. Workplaces need to allow for everyone to be able to raise concerns, push against societal norms where there is bias (whether conscious or unconscious), and promote the achievements of their people. Alice contributes to this through mentoring, being a positive role model, and by leading PentenAmio’s Women’s Network – one of the business’s many employee-led community groups. This vital network provides an open and supportive environment where members can discuss important topics and share knowledge in support of women in the business, such as women’s health and career development.

”Our Women’s Network offers a space to share knowledge on important topics which affect women in the workplace and in day-to-day life. As a group we aim to drive positive change across the company,” says Alice.

Alice’s experience shows how defence and cyber can be great career choices for everyone, but especially for talented women. She’s a success story for how, through curiosity and mentorship, everyone can thrive in our industry.

A huge congratulations to Alice for being named a finalist in the Champion for Maximising Talent category at this year’s Women In Defence UK awards. Everyone at PentenAmio is incredibly proud of her achievement.
