About the Role

As a Service Operations Engineer, you will play a critical role in monitoring and maintaining the reliability, performance, and security of our production infrastructure. You will manage incidents, support infrastructure deployments, automate operational tasks, and help transition new technologies into service.

Typical duties include:

  • Monitoring production infrastructure for faults, security alerts, and performance issues
  • Responding to incidents and major events with expert troubleshooting
  • Supporting deployments, patching, changes, and release activities on live infrastructure
  • Provisioning and supporting end-user devices and physical hardware maintenance
  • Identifying and implementing service automation and improvement opportunities
  • Assisting in project work including design, build, and implementation of infrastructure
  • Creating and maintaining clear technical documentation and process improvements

Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of IP networking and secure protocols (e.g., IPsec, SSH, SNMP)
  • Experience in Linux systems and infrastructure in on-prem/air-gapped environments
  • Familiarity with Docker, container-based infrastructure, and Ansible deployment tools
  • Proficient in basic scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure monitoring systems
  • Solid understanding of DNS, NTP, DHCP, ISO model, TCP/IP, TLS, OpenSSL
  • Exposure to ESXi, vCentre, Windows Server, and physical server hardware support
  • Knowledge of security monitoring tools (e.g., Nessus) and experience handling incidents

Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this position you must:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a service operations, IT infrastructure, or engineering environment.
  • Be a British Citizen; and
  • Hold or be eligible for NSV – DV (please see the gov.uk for guidance)
